All at the right time

There’s a time for everything. As much as we pray for the winter to end and summer to start, it will only happen when it’s meant to happen. There’s nothing we can do to change that, as much as we want to.

Out of the mouths of babes…

I learn so much from my little girl, and just about every other day she astounds me with her five- soon to be six- year old wisdom. I just wish I had started documenting it all from the start!

A loose tooth

Just recently, all her friends at school started losing their teeth. As the old teeth give way for their bigger counterparts, the baby teeth start to wiggle and wobble. She had been anxiously awaiting her teeth to start wobbling and just the other night she asked me if I could check her teeth…again..for the umpteenth time! And lo and behold — THANKFULLY — there was a little wobbler in there! She was, needless to say, over the moon.

Ever since, of course, she has had her fingers constantly stuck in her mouth trying to wiggle it to the point where it would just pop out. I tried to explain why it wasn’t a good idea to do so, and then she said something that I wasn’t expecting to hear. Clearly she understood it way better than I thought she did.

Hatching Eggs

Here is what she said.

‘Mom, I know. It’s like a baby chick in the egg. You should never help the little chick get out or break it’s shell. It needs to wriggle out on it’s own so that it can become stronger. It just takes time.’ Mika Nicolson 5yo…going on 6 with about 5 weeks to go…and counting!

I was blown away by her maturity and of course she was 100% correct and so spot on. I have to admit though — that her wisdom did not stop her from trying to wriggle it some more!

Birthing is a process…as is growth

There are reasons why it’s not wise to help a chick hatch, or help a butterfly merge from it’s cocoon. It’s during this process that it strengthens it’s little wings. It’s during this time of pushing and struggling but enduring the hardship of prying itself free from the space that confines it, that it becomes who it is meant to be. It’s gone through the process of
metamorphosis from what it was, to fulfilling it’s purpose.

If the butterfly never struggled out of it’s cocoon — it would most likely struggle through life and may never learn to fly and use it’s wings. It’s life would be cut short if it was unable to find shelter from predators or find food and water. (mmm??? What does a butterfly eat?)

So too, we have seasons in our life when things don’t seem to go our way. It can be really hard when you feel like you are alone and that you are the only one going through it all. But if we have faith and trust, these seasons too shall end. You cant force it to end.

This faith and trusting in the One who created time and seasons brings with it a sense of peace that whatever you’re going through will come to an end and that everything will be okay. That there is life, happiness and purpose at the end of it all. Hindsight is such a wonderful thing. Having and applying faith however, is so much more powerful.

Winter will change to spring…

At the right time, your winter will start changing and you’ll see little buds of success, little wins and eventually flowers appearing where once it seemed arid. And sometimes we wonder why we travailed so much during this time as we can see how we have grown through it all.

The question is…Will you be ready? And will you recognise it when it comes?

You have to constantly, throughout it all, be watering the garden of your mind. You do this by reading positive and faith-filled books and listening to audio teachings. This prepares you, so that when the time comes for you to step out, that you are ready to take on the task set before you.

If you have only been focussing on your struggles and how hard things are, you will not be ready to embrace the ‘new’ when it comes. You may not even recognise it. Sadly, many don’t recognise their blessings when they appear because their focus is on the wrong thing.

It’s so important to fill yourself up with what the Bible says about you. Speak the Word and positive things over your life.

Start focussing on where you are going instead of where you are.

A few books that I highly recommend you read are:

  • ** The Bible (NJKV; or The Message for easy reading)
** The Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer
** Think, Learn, Succeed by Dr Caroline Leaf
** Failing Foward and Today Matters by John Maxwell
** Start with Why by Simon Sinek
    ** Becoming by Michelle Obama
** Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes

Find support

During hardship, surround yourself with people that are there to support you. Hopefully these people will also be the ones to cheer you on in the good times. If you are feeling lonely, a church or a local charity would be good places to find people who can show you the love and care you need.

In business, networking groups are great if you need advice during times when things seem slow and you don’t know how to get out of the hole you find yourself in.

How it ends…

In the movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel , Sonny Kapoor is quoted saying the following. I love this quote and really do believe things all turn out good. It’s what you make of it after all.

Everything will be all right in the end and if it’s not all right, then it’s not yet the end.
